Destination wedding, is a term often used in the industry and those beginning their hunt for the perfect wedding destination (you), as venues where the wedding, reception and honeymoon reside in the same location.
Sometimes referred to as a “wedding moon,” these venues can typically be held at an exotic location like a tropical island complete with a function centre and facilities where your guests can relax and bask in the ambience that is designed to enhance the mood for everyone.
If you’re entertaining the thought of hosting a destination wedding, then just picture getting away to a secluded location with your closest and dearest friends and family, toasting to your prosperity and having the time of your lives! Since many of your guests will be staying overnight with you, its the perfect setting for those who have family and friends from far and wide, and in need of a good catch-up.
We’ve had the honour of working on some of the most spectacular spots around Australia and just off it (islands of course). So here is the first installment of a series of blog posts titled, Is This Your Next Wedding Destination?
The island is known as a stop over for sailors (not the pirate type but the Ralph-Lauren polo shirt wearing yacht type)
1. Hyams Beach
A quaint seaside community with an estimated population of about 70, could very well be the type of seclusion you want for your soiree. Found on the shores of Jarvis Bay, this little village is only a 3 hour drive south of Sydney, NSW.
You will be surrounded by two other beaches, Chinaman’s Beach and Seaman’s Beach (often referred to as Sailors Beach). Hyams Beach is placed comfortably between these two and features the longest bar of sand, of approximately 2 km.
If you’ve contemplated a Jarvis Bay wedding, then Hyams Beach is the spot we reccomend. Complete with a function centre and fun beach games, this wedding destination will suit the active and energetic amongst us.
2. Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat
- Preview Leanne & David’s wedding at the retreat!
Fancy exclusive use of an enchanting and picturesque venue with the backdrop of Australian natural beauty? This is what is offered when you’re after a good old fashioned bush bash but with all the elegance and class of contemporary style.
It’s one of a few wedding venues that offers a real private function centre where all staff are hands on deck just for you and your guests, nobody else. This means they can attend to your every need and ensure all your requests are met.
The service is one of the first things that impressed us when we recently filmed a wedding at Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat and their in house Caterer stepped outside of their core duties and made sure we were looked after as well!
3. Daydream Island
This is truly a gem that you may want to keep secret for your own. Daydream island belongs to the sub-group of seven of the Whitsunday Islands in QLD. It’s one of the smallest of its siblings, spanning 1 km long and only 400 m wide.
There are two resorts to choose from for your wedding destination, but it would most likley be narrowed down to the newer establishment on the north-eastern end of the island as this one can accomodate overnight stays and features a comprrehensive function centre.
The island is known as a stop over for sailors (not the pirate type but the Ralph-Lauren polo shirt wearing yacht type). The island has a really cool outdoor aquarium with rare species from the Great Barrier Reef. Your guests will also love activities such as snorkeling, jet-skiiing, scuba divong and coral viewing.
